Review: Essence long-lasting eye pencils

Hi all!

Maybe you have already noticed it, maybe not…but for a while now I have been using a couple of the Essence long-lasting eye pencils in my makeup looks. It brings me great joy whenever I get to write a review about a low-budget product that has exceeded my expectations. Hence, this post will be on a very positive note πŸ™‚

I own 6 of these pencils. I don’t know how many there are in total, but I assume I am only missing not more than 2 or 3, so my experience with the Essence long-lasting pencils is quite extensive. After testing them for several months now, my opinion of them remains very positive.

Let me show you how they look, and some swatches. Afterwards, I will discuss them in more detail:

First of all let me say, these pencils are very easy and pleasant to work with. They are soft and creamy, they glide easily on the lid and they have excellent staying power (on e/s base of course, I always use that before applying makeup)…even on the waterline.

And now, about each pencil individually:

05 C’est La Vie is a metallic silver colour, very potent and very bright. I have even used it as a creamy e/s.

02 Hot Chocolate is among my favourites, a lovely matte dark brown colour which looks lovely whenever you wish to avoid using black (also in the waterline).

15 Bling Bling is a soft metallic gold-bronze colour. A real keeper! It looks beautiful not only on the lid but also in the waterline. I use it very often, when I want a light colour in the waterline, but not white. I don’t really have a flesh colour pencil yet, and this one is a great solution for the time being. It also works great to complement fall makeup looks πŸ™‚

17 Tu-Tu Touquoise (no, it’s not a spelling error on my side, that’s what’s written on the pencil) is a turquoise blue with tiny silver glitter particles. This colour looks fabulous on brown-eyed ladies. It’s bright and playful!

12 Have a Green is a deep forest green, also with small glitter particles. I simply love this pencil, because it’s not too bright and is just the perfect shade of green.

16 Coolest Chick is a true purple with silver glitter (that glitter :P). Again, a very pleasant colour to use for my dark brown eyes.

The price of each pencil is €1,59.

I cannot say anything bad about these pencils really. The only thing I could point out as a negative is that some of them have glitter, but that does not bother me at all because it’s not too much. I guess the glitter would be a matter of personal choice then πŸ™‚

I use the Essence long-lasting eye pencils frequently as liners, which I combine in all sort of ways for everyday looks. For example today, I did this before I went out:

To be able to achieve more precise lines, I just swatch some of the pencil on the back of my hand and then use a slanted brush to wing a liner, easy-peasy πŸ™‚ Another idea would be to line your eyes with the pencil itself, and then from there use a slanted brush to extend it to a wing. Just find what works best for you πŸ™‚

I like doing this look a lot lately because it’s fairly easy and I can use any colour combination I feel like that day (sometimes I start with a black liquid liner and do the colour on top of that, and here you can go even crazier…use an e/s, or a pigment, dry or wet…). To add depth, I put MUG e/s Moondust through the crease (anything else, which is a neutral would do though)…All in all, an everyday look with a twist and plenty of room for experimenting: my favourite πŸ˜€

Do you have any of these pencils? What do you think about them? Which colour is your favourite?

Have a lovely weekend!

XoXo

    • Hi Patricia! I guess you can find the pencils in drugstores which offer the brand Essence…they are still part of the permanent line. Where exactly do you live?

      • I live in Houston, Tx.. Hmm I guess I haven’t tried hard enough then πŸ™‚

      • Oh I had no idea that you had Essence in the US! I hope you find it, it must be there if they offer the regular Essence line πŸ˜‰ Otherwise we can organize some sort of a swap…I am lusting after a bunch of NYX JEP, and NYX is difficult to find here. Let me know!

      • Hi Mari! So… I finally found the line at a local store, but they did not have the “Coolest Chic” color 😦 So either they discontinued it, or it’s just nowhere to be found here…Maybe we can swap something like you said- as long as they are around the same value πŸ™‚

      • Hi Patricia! I see, how odd…because I don’t think it has been discontinued. Perhaps if they restock, you can check again….Anyhow, you are of course right..in a swap the value has to match and it definitely isn’t worth for just 1 pencil. If you think of other things you may like from Essence, or even Catrice…let me know. We can figure something out.
I hope they just restock it and you can find it easily. Success!!!
