I’d like to tell you about two products: one that I have actually had for a while now, and the other one is brand-new, fresh out the oven 🙂 + of course a makeup look featuring both goodies.
A while ago, I got another one of my mega loved Bourjois cream-to-powder blushes (which I should probably review soon too..hmm) and it came in a pay-1-product, get-1-for-free deal…I had no idea what to get, when I laid my eyes upon the Bourjois color editions. I thought “meh, Maybelline colour tatoo rip-offs…” And I don’t own any of those either! However, there was nothing else that caught my eye, and I decided to give it a go. I chose 05 Prune Nocturne: a gorgeous deep plum with tiny red sparkles. Also, I have to admit I am a fan of Bourjois’ cream-to-powder formula.
The second product I will tell you more about is the L’Oreal infallible 2 step longwear lipstick in Relentless Rouge…Jeez what a long name!!! I was at the drugstore today (totally minding my own business and not looking for a lipstick by the way! :P) and I saw these beauties in a very sweet deal. I was attracted to the bright colours and the interesting concept of the product. It is by no means a new concept, but a cool one nonetheless.
So, as you see the lipstick has the lip colour one one side and a balm on the other.
The colour is really pretty 🙂 A bit if brick red with tiny shimmer.
At first, I applied the lipstick the wrong way…I put on the lip colour and then rubbed my lips together, as I’d usually do when applying lipstick (that as it turned out is huge NO-NO with these liptsicks). The lip colour is kind of liquidy…so after rubbing my lips together, I had some on my teeth!!! Yuck!!! If there’s one thing I hate, it’s lipstick transferring on my teeth..it simply isn’t meant to be there, right! Then, I applied the balm waaaay too early and the whole balm stick was covered with the lip colour, not to mention it did nothing for the underlying layer of colour.
…I was about to whole-heartedly unleash my hate upon this lipstick (you can see the miserable result on the full face makeup photos in the end of the post) …
But then, I went online and asked my best friend – Google, for reviews on this lipstick line..and found out I had been doing it all wrong…L-O-L 😛
So, guys, the right way to do this:
1. Apply lip colour, without rubbing your lips together, and do it carefully for the colour is intense and the consistency is liquid.
2. Give the lip colour a few minutes to dry.
3. Apply balm, once the lip colour has dried.
And there you go: you are left with a beautiful colour and soft texture on your lippies!
Now let’s go back to Prune Nocturne:
I think the colour (deep plum with a somewhat brown undertone) is fabulous and the texture is so soft and silky. You can build up the colour according to your liking and the pigmentation is great. It really does turn into a more powdery texture once you apply it. I always use an e/s base so I have no idea if it really lasts long on its own…could be, on drier lids, but mine get oily.
You can use this product as an e/s, a base for other e/s or even as a liner…Today, I used Prune Nocturne as a base in the outer 1/2 of the lid and took it a bit up to the crease…with a bunch of other eyeshadows to set it of course haha, full list follows:
