Hello everyone!
As I mentioned on my fb page today, a review of a new indie company I discovered recently is on its way 🙂
A few months ago, whilst browsing for more information on mineral makeup, I stumbled upon Fyrinnae Cosmetics. The company has been around for a while now and it seems like beauty bloggers generally rave about it. Why, you may ask…Apparently, this indie brand creates pretty unique shades…Much like the Darling Girls, which you have seen me mention on several occasions already.
Given my new-found love for unique and special shades Fyrinnae fit the picture perfectly :), so I immediately went to their website and picked a few things. Luckily, they offer sample sizes, so I was able to purchase quite a few things for a really reasonable price (like 12-15$ in total). My order arrived within 2-3 weeks, tops, despite the warning on their website that it may take a while for my goodies to be shipped, so yaay for that too.
I got:
- 5 loose eyeshadows
- blush
- highlighter
- Pixie Epoxy (their custom e/s base) which I forgot to take a pic of, sorry…but basically it’s a tiny lipgloss-like bottle (sample version) to try out the product before I commit to a full-size
Those are the shadows:
And here are the blush and the highlighter:
Now let’s proceed to the swatches of the eyeshadows and more info on each individual shade:
(swatches were done over Pixie Epoxy)
Since the colours are supposedly quite complex and not just flat monochromatic, I decided the easiest way to describe them is use Fyrinnae’s own description and then tell you how I feel about it. Let’s get started:
Jade Ghost – “Satiny pale white-green in the jar, but once applied, it has an iridescent glow of light green shimmer and a touch of sparkle. Try applying over a black base (shadow, liner, etc) for a great effect.”
My thoughts: Generally, I am a big fan of pale greens and this one is no exception. I am not sure the shimmer is green, to me it comes out a bit more yellow-ish…but this shade is stunning nonetheless. Applied over a black base, the colour becomes very intense and slightly darker.
Pyromantic Erotica – this shadow, as well as the next one (Mermaid Masquerade) are Arcane Magic eye shadows.
This is how Fyrinnae explains what Arcane Magic shades are:
“Fyrinnae’s Arcane Magic Eyeshadows are specialized colours with a highlight which changes hue depending on how the light hits it (closer to or further from a light). This is not the same thing as “duochrome” shadows which feature only a singular highlight layered on a base hue. Different light sources may show different shades, too (they do not show as well in sunlight as artifical light, and some may not appear to change at all). Please note that the Arcanes will probably look a little different in photos than in person because of the light-change effect.”
Pyromantic Erotica is described as “a deep orange with an obvious chartreuse highlight. As it gets closer to light, the shadow changes to a brighter, gleaming orange.”
My thoughts: I agree with every bit of this statement…and hopefully in a a few minutes you will too 😉
Mermaid Masquerade – “Bright, rich, shimmering royal blue. Moved closer to light or at an angle, and it turns purple to pink, though still retaining hints of blue.”
My thoughts: As much as I love this beautiful royal blue, I do not see any pink or purple in there…perhaps I have to look at the right light…
Bollywood Babe – “Satiny cool medium pink loaded with cheery gold sparkle.”
My thoughts: I agree with this. It’s a very bright, cheerful pink shade with a bit of gold sparkles. Compared to the previous three shades, it feels a bit chunkier in texture.
Aye, Captain – “Aye, Captain is a “glowing”, complex chartreuse filled with varying hues of green and yellow. It’s not pastel, but a semi-sheer sparkle shade much like Otherworld. Used over regular primer or blended over other shades, it is a great highlight or main color. But over a sticky base (or color base like black or white) it’s a vibrant gleaming pop of color.”
My thoughts: Again, I agree with their description. You can also see that applied by itself it looks a bit sheer. Over the NYX JEP Milk, it becomes much more intense. Similar to Bollywood Babe, this shadow feel a bit chunkier..I have to say these two remind me of Sleek pigments…those are also a bit chunky and flaky in the jar, and need to be crushed well (in the lid, with a brush) before applied on the eyelid.
Overall, I really enjoy these shades and their intended complexity (even when I fail to see it haha). I did a makeup look with a few of them yesterday, to show you how they look “live” =>
I used: Jade Ghost, Pyromantic Erotica, Aye Captain and Mermaid Masquerade. I hope you can also see the orange shade shifting into lime green (especially on the last photo, see the right eye..corner area?). Really gorgeous!
I used the blush (Charm) and the highlighter (Centre Stage) only once…and found that using loose blush and highlighter can be itsy-bitsy messy (should have seen that one coming, right!?)….messier than loose eyeshadows for sure! That said, they are also really pretty. The blush has a very intense pink colour and the highlighter is a champagne-like shade.
I have been thinking of trying to mix them with my bb cream for easier application…will let you know if that actually works out.
As far as the Pixie Epoxy e/s base goes, I have not used it extensively to have an opinion of it…anyway, it isn’t an e/s base strictly speaking…You do need a real base before you apply it. Pixie Epoxy is meant to help the shadows of Fyrinnae really pop. I find that the texture reminds me a lot of the Essence pigment base, which I mainly use when I want to make sure that sparkly eyeshadows retain their sparkles, or to apply glitter. I will show you what I mean some time 😉
In case you want to check the website and pick a few beauties for your own collection, here is a link to their website. Let me know which shades you picked!!! I am already gathering info on what to get next 😉 😛
What do you think about the shades? Any fav so far? And the makeup?
Ok, now I am starving, so I bid you good night and will get started on the dinner 😉
This eye look works very good on you! Wonderful! XX
Thanks hun! ❤
