Maybelline Color Tattoos in Everlasting Navy and Endless Purple: review and makeup looks

Hi guys! The Maybelline Color Tattoos hardly need any introduction, as they have become so popular ever since they came out on the market, that most of you probably already own at least one. Well, I didn’t! For many reasons, the main one being that they are freakin’ expensive in the Netherlands (€11 per jar). I always thought, meh I am not paying so much money for something that I will only use practically as a base for eyeshadows, and not by itself. The NYX JEP Milk already does that for me, while being cheaper and more versatile. I know a lot of people who use them as the sole product, as a wash of colour on the lids. Nothing wrong with that! I personally prefer more intense colours, so to me they would never serve as more than a base. However, a few days a ago I spotted a few of them in a major discount..well, for €2 a jar I just couldn’t walk away without grabbing some. I picked a dark navy blue and a purple (blue and purple, what a surprise, right! haha) The exact names are: 25- Everlasting Navy and 15-Endless Purple. I am sensing a theme here…their taupe colour is called Permanent Taupe (correct me if I am wrong) and I think the bronzy one is On and On-Bronze or something. So they definitely got something going on with the eternity theme.  Anyhow, both colours are really gorgeous and very much up my alley. Everlasting Navy is a beautiful dark, navy blue…very intense. It’s the kind of blue I am a sucker for 😛 Hmm come to think of it, which blue am I not a sucker for?! Endless Purple is a really pretty, vibrant purple with what looks like magenta sparkles in it. It reminds me a bit of Sugarpill’s Paperdoll loose e/s, becasue that one is also infused with pinkish-magenta sparkles. And now swatches: The Color Tattoos in general are meant to be a very versatile product. As I said you can used them as a cream shadow, on their own for a pop of colour on the lid. You can use them as a base for your eyeshadows and, depending on the colour you have, they can definitely come in handy as gel liners as well. I have tried applying them both with my fingers and with a brush. Now, I have to be honest…they do tend to apply a bit patchy. I found this to be worse when I use my fingers though. With a flat synthetic brush, the application is much easier, less messy and gives you more control to avoid the patchiness. They do not dry immediately, so you have some time to apply e/s on top, if you want….and blend, of course 😉 If you don’t have oily lids, perhaps you could get away with using only the tattoo on your lids…I mean, after all, Maybelline does promise 24h longevity ( not that I am buying it hehe). Me, myself and I cannot attest to that. We always use an e/s base first because creasing ain’t pretty. On top of e/s base, they last at least 8-10h. Naturally, I could not wait to test them out, so I have 2 makeup look coming up. Let’s start with the Everlasting Navy: I kept this look monochromatic because I do love a dark blue smokey eye. However, several shades of blue were involved in the making. Everlasting Navy was a base colour for the whole lid and lower lash line. On top of that I applied, from inner corner to outer V: Inglot 429P, Inglot 426P and Saint by Concrete Minerals. Inglot 426P, a mid-tone, bright pearl blue shadow, turns into this amazing blue awesomeness when applied over this Color Tattoo. It is already one of my favourite Inglot e/s (it has a visible dent in it, which is a sure sign of the love I’ve been giving it) but over Everlasting Navy it reaches a whole new level of awesome. You should try it! What I used:

The purple look is not among the best ones I have created but, in my defense, in my head it looked better. I think the problem is that, if there is such a thing as too much purple, I achieved it haha. It won’t come to you as a surprise that I topped Endless Purple with Sugarpill’s Paperdoll. The only thing is that I used my fingers to apply the cream shadow and it applied a bit patchy, which also resulted in a troubled Paperdoll application. Paperdoll has a matte base, and of all my Sugarpill loose e/s, is the most difficult one to work with. You really need a good sticky base for it. So far, I have been using NYX Milk, but once I get the hang of the Endless Purple tattoo it would be perfect for that too 🙂 What I used:
