It feels a bit odd going back to random makeup posts after the Sugarpill week last week…I really enjoyed having a theme and the challenge to deliver a post every day. I am considering doing something similar with the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette…
But for now, let’s do a random review!
I hadn’t used a gel liner in a very long time….mainly because my Catrice ones dried out and it really wasn’t fun working with them anymore. Plus, my recent love affair with eyeliner pens seemed to be blooming…still is. A few weeks ago, though, I was doing the makeup of a friend and I used a gel liner (not mine). It was so creamy and smooth, glided so effortlessly on the lid, that it made me remember why gel liners can be so awesome!
I had heard good things about both the L’Oreal and the Maybelline versions, so when I went to the store I had no particular preference. A sale is what eventually tipped the scale towards Maybelline. I picked up 01 Intense Black.
Of course, I couldn’t wait to try it out 🙂
As usual, the gel liner comes in a cute little jar. There is also a bonus brush which has Maybelline New York written on the handle. The brush is thin and the bristles are sturdy. I actually find it very convenient to use. You can draw both thick and thin precise lines with it, and it’s very easy to clean. It has a little plastic protection lid, in case you don’t have time to clean it right away and you don’t want it to stain surrounding objects.
The consistency of the product itself it very creamy and glides on very smoothly. It doesn’t have a shiny, nor a really matte finish..the perfect in-between. I wouldn’t say the colour is really pitch black but, to me, it’s more than sufficiently black 😉
Once you apply it, it doesn’t dry within seconds, allowing you some time to correct mistakes. Within a minute or two it really sets and stays where it is, unless you take it off with a makeup remover. I had it on for 8-9 hours yesterday and it didn’t move an inch away from where I had placed it.
I used it together with my new Sugarpill Chromalust loose eyeshadow Darling to create this look:
So for now, I am back to gel liners…
All in all, the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner is a really great drugstore product and I’d highly recommend it, if you are a fan of the winged liner 😉
The only thing I cannot comment on, and am really curious about is, how long it takes before the gel liner dries out.
Do you guys have experience with the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner? What is your favourite eyeliner?
